Melanie J. Richards – Director and Principal

Melanie Richards is the Founder and Principal Consultant at CSR Solutions Limited. Having made her transition into CSR from a business background; a former accountant and auditor, Melanie appreciates the need to balance responsible business with profitable business.

She is passionately involved and in the field of CSR and sustainability and currently sits as the Chair of the CSR Committee at the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce. She is the regional CSR trainer for the Organization of American States (OAS) and has facilitated workshops throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, including Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Mexico, The Bahamas, and Trinidad & Tobago.

A firm believer in balancing academic insight with practical experience, Melanie is the sole Caribbean participant involved in the UNDP Global Initiative – ‘Growing Inclusive Markets’ – which has been described as an initiative that brought together ‘an unprecedented coalition of thinkers and actors in the field of business, academia and human development’ to explore the business contribution toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals. She is a contributing case study author of “Creating Value for All: Strategies for Doing Business with the Poor”, which focuses on private sector initiatives to include the poor in business as consumers, employees and producers.

Melanie has also been involved in numerous projects at a community level, including the assessment of conflicts, and related social impacts, between local communities and various development projects in Trinidad and Tobago.

She holds an MA in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Nottingham, as well as an MBA in Marketing, and a B.Sc. in Tourism Management from the University of the West Indies. She has also completed the 1st and 2nd levels of the ACCA professional accounting designation examinations.

Melanie also sits as the Chair of the Trinidad and Tobago ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Mirror Committee.
